Firefighters responded Saturday afternoon to a residential structure fire in the Eastern Goleta Valley.

The blaze was reported at about 2:40 p.m. by an occupant of a single-family home on the 4600 block of Puente Plaza, south of Hollister Avenue near San Marcos High School.

The first crews on scene reported heavy flames and smoke coming from the garage of the two-story residence, and a working fire was declared, bringing in more firefighting resources, according to emergency radio traffic.

Firefighters began an attack on the flames, and conducted a search of the home to make sure no one was inside.

The flames were reported knocked down at 3:08 p.m.

The fire was contained mainly to the garage, although there was some extension into the interior of the home, according to Capt. Scott Safechuck of the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

“Firefighters were able to keep the fire from spreading further into the structure or to adjacent residences,” Safechuck said.

Firefighters reportedly had to deal with lithium-ion batteries that were in the garage, according to radio traffic.

One person was displaced by the fire, Safechuck said.

No injuries were reported, and the cause of the fire was under investigation.

Crews from the city of Santa Barbara assisted on the incident.
