Mary Switzer
Mary Switzer

Mary (Marzolino) Switzer, 96, passed away peacefully on Dec. 20, 2025, in Santa Barbara, with her family by her side. She is now at home with our Lord and reunited with her beloved husband, John, who passed in 2023.

Born on Sept. 3, 1929, in Detroit Michigan, Mary was the youngest of seven children in a loving Italian family.

She attended school in Detroit before moving with part of her family to Pasadena, California, beginning a new chapter on the West Coast.

After business school, Mary worked as a secretary and loan processor before meeting John on a blind date at the Brown Derby in Los Angeles. They married, raised three sons, and shared nearly 70 years of devotion.

Mary’s Italian heritage shone through in her exceptional cooking and the warm, welcoming home she created.

In 1964, the family settled in Santa Barbara, where Mary formed lifelong friendships and was blessed to be around many extended family members, especially her sister Theresa. She loved socializing and spending time with those she cherished.

Mary is survived by her sons Scott (Cheryl), Larry (Jill), and Robert (Tricia); seven grandchildren Brian, Christine, Sarah, Kurtis, Ryan, Travis and Greg; 18 great‑grandchildren (with one on the way); and her 98‑year‑old sister Theresa. Mary’s family was her greatest joy.

A lifelong and devout Catholic, Mary drew strength from her faith through every season of life.

Mary will be remembered for the beautiful life she built and the love she shared with all who knew her.

A memorial service will be held at San Roque Church in Santa Barbara at a later date.

Memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or Hospice Care of Santa Barbara.
