Guadalupe Union School District (GUSD) will celebrate the grand opening of the Guadalupe Early Learning Center (ELC) with a ribbon cutting ceremony, 3:30 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 14 at the ELC, 375 Arroyo Seco Road.

The new ELC, which sits on 5.1 acres, represents an investment of about $10 million, and will serve up to 192 students.

The event follows the recent opening of GUSD’s new junior high school, which has 16 classrooms, a gymnasium, and a library. Together, the two facilities occupy more than 17 acres, underscoring the district’s commitment to expanding educational opportunities for local families, GUSD said.

“Without the tremendous support of the Guadalupe community, these much-needed and much-anticipated facilities would not have been possible,’’ said GUSD Superintendent Emilio Handall. “The citizens of Guadalupe overwhelmingly approved four bond measures in the span of six years.

“First passing Measures M &N in 2016, and then Measure V &W in 2022. The schools represent incredible opportunities for the children of Guadalupe and the generosity of its citizens.’’

The district’s new configuration will be Guadalupe ELC for preschool and TK; Mary Buren Elementary will be K-3; Kermit McKenzie Intermediate School will be grades 4-6; Guadalupe Junior High will be grades 7-8.

GUSD has a little more than 1,300 students.
