Firefighters responded early Tuesday to a fire in an apartment unit in Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Department.

Crews were dispatched at 12:30 a.m. to the fire in a two-bedroom, second-story unit on the 100 block of North Kellogg Avenue, fire Capt. Scott Safechuck said.

“Firefighters made an aggressive interior attack, and were able to confine the fire to the unit of origin,” Safechuck said.

The blaze was declared knocked down at 12:52 a.m., and crews remained on scene for several hours for overhaul and mop-up of hot spots.

“It was reported the resident did not hear a smoke alarm, but was alerted by the sound of the fire,” Safechuck said.

He added that one resident and a dog were displaced.

Cause of the fire was under investigation.
