The annual Santa Barbara Girls Water Polo Tournament of Champions came to an end on Saturday, with Mater Dei winning the championship in a field that included three local squads.
While Mater Dei came out on top, San Marcos placed fifth and Dos Pueblos secured a 10th-place finish to represent local schools in the championship bracket.

The Royals won back-to-back games against JSerra and Long Beach Wilson on Saturday to place fifth in the tournament.
“I’m super impressed with my team’s ability to be resilient over the weekend,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “We are improving at playing as a team, having fun, and supporting each other. I’m proud of this group of athletes and look forward to what we’ll be able to accomplish.”
San Marcos took down JSerra by a score of 9-3, led by the duo of Charlotte Raisin and Jade Pattison. Raisin scored four goals and Pattison tallied three, while Bethany King blocked eight shots in goal.
The Royals stayed hot later in the day with a 14-8 victory over Long Beach Wilson, thanks in part to goals coming from five different players.
San Marcos will return to Channel League action by hosting crosstown rival Dos Pueblos on Thursday at 3:15 p.m. for Senior Day.
Dos Pueblos
The Chargers went 1-1 on Saturday to round out the SB Tournament of Champions with a total record of 3-2 to place 10th as a team.
Dos Pueblos pulled out an 11-10 victory over Beckman before capping off the weekend with a 14-7 loss to Corona Del Mar.
Dev Wigo and Talia Marshall paced the Charger offense with four goals apiece against Beckman, while Kyra Jones, Malaya Coleman and Cierra Furneaux all scored once. Reagan Mack ended with six saves and two steals.
In the loss to Corona Del Mar, Wigo stayed hot with four more goals and Jones, Marshall and Wynonna Shea each tallied one goal. Mack continued her stellar tournament with nine saves and two steals.
Santa Barbara High
The Dons also ended their tournament by splitting a doubleheader on Saturday. Santa Barbara High went 2-2 in the tournament.
Santa Barbara started the day with a 16-12 comeback victory over Temple City. Violette Bailey led the way with five goals, while Rose Nelley recorded four goals and three steals. Hope Smith and Nala Rosen each scored as well.
The Dons followed up the win with a 13-10 loss at the hands of Laguna Beach. Jules Horton, Luna Morancey, Yesenia Dunn and Kana Wolfe all scored twice for Santa Barbara in the loss.
Santa Barbara High (16-4) will return to Channel League play with a road matchup with Rio Mesa on Tuesday.
