San Marcos boys basketball won its fourth straight Channel League game with a 65-41 rout of Rio Mesa on Wednesday inside the Thunderhut.

“I thought we had a very professional approach to the game tonight,” San Marcos head coach Matt Jordan said. “Rio Mesa plays super hard and I thought they matched our physicality to start. We started to rebound the ball better in the second quarter and took control of the game.”

Koji Hefner poured in a team-high 19 points for the Royals, while Aidan Conlan closely followed with 17 points. Sergio Landeros also ended in double figures with 10 points of his own.

“Koji and Aidan were awesome, but I thought it was the others that got us going tonight,” Jordan said. “Sergio Landeros was awesome cutting all night. His game has really evolved, and he’s become an outstanding player and a vital piece to the team.

“Benny Huerta was a spark plug off the bench tonight and gave really good minutes that helped change the complexion of the game early.”
