San Marcos boys basketball won its sixth straight Channel League contest with a 67-57 victory over Ventura High on Monday night in Ventura.
The Royals (18-6, 9-2 Channel League) remain in sole possession of second place in the league with three games to go. They will host crosstown rival Dos Pueblos on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
“Happy to get the win tonight,” San Marcos head coach Matt Jordan said. “Ventura played super well and shot the ball incredibly well. We had some good runs throughout the game, but we need to learn how to finish off games better.”
It was a balanced attack for the Royals, as the senior duo of Koji Hefner and Brody Green led the offense with 19 and 18 points, respectively. Meanwhile, Sergio Landeros chipped in 13 points and Aidan Conlan scored 12.
“Koji Hefner was phenomenal tonight, attacking the rim, and Brody Green did a good job playing in the middle of their zone,” Jordan said.
“The biggest stretch of the game came when Jacob Wallace came in. He secured three unbelievable offensive rebounds that led directly to an 8-0 run. Jacob is the ultimate team guy and is probably the most beloved guy on our team. He’s the perfect teammate, and I’m truly blessed I get to coach him.”
Santa Clara 67, Dunn 60
The Earwigs struggled late in a loss to Santa Clara on Monday night.
After trailing 30-29 at halftime, Dunn dominated the third quarter to take a 49-41 advantage into the final quarter of play.
However, Santa Clara took advantage of several key turnovers down the stretch to pull ahead and pull out the victory.
Walker Vazquez led the Dunn attack with 31 points and six assists, while Jayden Alabi tallied a double-double of 22 points and 12 rebounds.
