
Chaucer’s Books will host local author Leslie Bains for a storytime reading and signing of her book “Birds, Monarch Butterflies, and Short Hikes in the Santa Barbara Area,” 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 15 at 3321 State St., Santa Barbara.
“Birds, Monarch Butterflies and Short Hikes in Santa Barbara” is a family guide to the various types of seasonal birds in the Santa Barbara Community; an overview of the 30,000 monarch butterflies that inhabit the area annually from November to February; and a variety of short hikes.
Bains, a Santa Barbara resident, is an award-winning children’s book author. She was president of AFS International, the largest student exchange program in the world with offices in more than 50 countries.
Bains had a 50-year career in wealth management, serving as the highest ranking woman as senior executive vice president of HSBC; and was recognized as one of the top 25 women in banking worldwide.
She has been involved as a corporate director and trustee of numerous corporations and nonprofits, and currently serves on the executive committee of the Granada Theatre, the Board of the Cancer Foundation, Duke University Board of Health, and Duke Global Health.
