Local students Jack Hyatt and Sebastian Fabio are leading a $200,000 student campaign to fund blood cancer research for Blood Cancer United (formerly the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society or LLS).

For high school juniors Jack Hyatt (Dos Pueblos High) and Sebastian Fabio (Santa Babara High), the campaign is about more than fundraising, it’s about hope and progress for families facing blood cancer.

The two lifelong friends are serving as co-team leaders of a seven-member team in Blood Cancer United’s Student Visionaries of the Year program, the organization formerly known as LLS, with their efforts focused on the research pillar that fuels new treatments and cures.

Between classes, homework, and everyday teenage life, the students are organizing outreach, meeting with donors, and learning how to lead with purpose, all while working toward an ambitious $200,000 goal.

Their mission is simple: help accelerate breakthroughs so families facing leukemia, lymphoma, and other blood cancers have better options, and more time together.

“This campaign has shown me that leadership isn’t about age, it’s about stepping up for something bigger than yourself,” said Jack.

“We want to use our energy and our community to help accelerate cures for blood cancer. I’m grateful for the opportunity to help support this mission in our community,” he said.
