The pedestrian who was critically injured Friday afternoon when she was struck by a vehicle in downtown Santa Barbara has died, according to the Santa Barbara Police Department.

Emergency personnel were dispatched at about 5:20 p.m. to the incident on the 100 block of West Anapamu Street.

The pedestrian — identified as Teresa Garcia, 68, of Ventura — was entering a parked vehicle when she was struck, police said.

She received emergency medical treatment at the scene before being transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.

The male driver of the vehicle, whose name was not released, was evaluated for being under the influence of alcohol, “and it was confirmed that impairment was not a factor in this collision,” police said.

Anapamu Street in the area of the crash was shut down for several hours while police conducted their investigation, which is ongoing.
