Santa Barbara High girls water polo came from behind for a 13-12 win over Temple City in the CIF-SS Div. 2 Quarterfinals on Friday in Santa Barbara.

The Dons, the top seed in the division, will remain at home and host Murrieta Valley for the Semifinals on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

Santa Barbara High found itself trailing 6-3 early in the second quarter, but the Dons’ defense buckled down and held Temple City to just six goals for the rest of the game.

The Dons tied things up at 6-6 early in the third, leading to both teams trading goals and there being five total ties in the quarter. Heading into the fourth, Santa Barbara High led 12-10.

While the Dons clung to a 13-12 lead with 15 seconds left, Temple City had possession of the ball in search of the last shot. However, the Santa Barbara High defense stood tall and prevented a shot to earn the win.

Jules Horton filled up the stat sheet once again for Santa Barbara High with four goals, four exclusions earned and two field blocks. Meanwhile, Luna Morancey scored four goals and swiped three steals.

Violette Bailey also did a little bit of everything with three goals, three assists and five steals. Rose Nelley rounded out the top performers with two goals, two assists and two exclusions earned.
