Linnea Clapinski took center stage for Dos Pueblos girls lacrosse in Friday’s home opener, scoring all of her team’s goals in a thrilling 10-9 double-overtime win over Westridge at Scott O’Leary Stadium.

Clapinski racked up 10 goals throughout the game, capped off by a penalty shot for the golden goal in double overtime.

The Chargers held a slim 2-1 lead after the first and remained ahead, 3-2, by halftime. The two sides exchanged blows in the second half, with the score tied at 6-6 after the third and at 9-9 by the end of regulation to set up Clapinski’s heroics in overtime.

“We were short-handed due to sickness and injuries, so we had to move a couple players into some new positions, and those players responded and played amazingly,” Dos Pueblos head coach Dan Feldhaus said. “Linnea played a great game and really carried our offense tonight.”

While Clapinski led the offense and picked up 14 draw controls, Charger goalie Stella Lawler ended the night with nine saves.

Dos Pueblos (2-0) will host Agoura High on Tuesday at 5 p.m.

San Marcos 9, Notre Dame 8

The Royals battled to a comeback 9-8 victory over Notre Dame of Sherman Oaks on Friday at Warkentin Stadium.

San Marcos (2-0) trailed by three goals in the opening period but stormed from behind to earn the non-league win.

“Nobody scripts going down by three goals, but the competitive nature of these girls really came out today as a result,” San Marcos head coach Paul Ramsey said. “They went to work.”

By the end of the first quarter, the Royals cut the deficit to 4-3. They continued to roll in the second quarter to snag a 6-5 lead by halftime.

“Their midfielder Alexus Ray was winning the draw for them over and over, so in our timeout, we changed up centers and our defense formation,” Ramsey said of the first-quarter adjustment.

“It worked well enough to get a few balls and some goals and some confidence.”

San Marcos pulled away to lead 9-6 with one quarter to play after holding the Knights scoreless in the third quarter. Notre Dame made a late push with two goals in the fourth, but the Royals held on for the win.

“We were resilient all over the field, but I really have to compliment the team defense we played the entire second half,” Ramsey said. “It had it all, including some clutch play from Carly (Grant), saving three of the five final shots by Notre Dame.”

Josephine Grossman was at the center of the San Marcos attack with a game-high four goals. Meanwhile, Victoria Aldana tallied two goals and two assists, and Carly Grant collected nine saves.

The Royals will be on the road for a non-league game against West Ranch next Wednesday.
