A driver was arrested Saturday night following a head-on crash in north Santa Maria.
At approximately 8:30 p.m., personnel from the Santa Maria Police and Fire departments along with an American Medical Response ambulance crew were dispatched to the collision at the intersection of East Donovan Road and Elm Street.
The investigation determined that one vehicle was traveling east on Donovan Road when the driver suddenly swerved into the westbound lane, crossing into oncoming traffic.
The vehicle slammed head-on into a westbound vehicle.
Minor injuries were reported and medical assistance was offered at the scene.
Police arrested the driver of the first vehicle on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.
The driver, whose name was not immediately available, was booked into the Santa Barbara County Northern Branch Jail, police said.
Officers arrested several impaired drivers for suspicion of DUI Saturday night, police said.
“Driving under the influence puts everyone at risk, and enforcement efforts will continue,” police added.
