A motorcyclist was critically injured Monday afternoon in a collision with a car on Hollister Avenue in Goleta, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

Firefighters, Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office deputies and other emergency personnel were dispatched at about 4:45 p.m. to the crash in the westbound lanes of Hollister at Coromar Drive, according to Raquel Zick, spokeswoman for the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office.

The collision involved a Nissan Altima sedan and a BMW motorcycle, both of which were heavily damaged. Evidence holds were placed on both vehicles.

The motorcycle rider was taken by AMR ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital with major injuries.

Their name and details on their condition were not available.

The driver of the sedan was not hurt and remained on the scene, Zick said. The driver was interviewed and released.

The westbound lanes and one eastbound lane were shut down between Los Carneros and Storke roads following the crash, which is under investigation by the Sheriff’s Office. The lanes were reopened just before 8 p.m.
