The Carpinteria High boys and girls swim teams swept their first league dual meet of the season against Hueneme on Wednesday.

The Warrior boys rolled to a 130-31 win, while the girls squad also captured a comfortable victory at 93-41.

“I am pleasantly surprised at our early-season racing, especially by swimmers in the longer events. You never know what results to expect after 2 ½ weeks of training,” Carpinteria High head coach Jon Otsuki said.

Jake Ehlers (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle) and Sky Korling (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly) began their senior seasons as the lone double individual event winners for the Warrior boys.

Meanwhile, Ryder Shaw (500 freestyle), Chris Reed (200 IM), Wyatt Pitterle (100 backstroke) and Stefano Piccoletti (100 breaststroke) all won their individual events. The Carpiteria boys also swept all three relay races.

On the girls side, Izzy Scott won the 50 and 100 freestyle races and Lucy Moore took care of business in the longer free style events with victories in the 200 and 500 freestyles.

Madison Lee (200 IM), Lucia Smith (100 backstroke), Klari Blackman (100 breaststroke) and Hazel Dugre (100 butterfly) rounded out the Warrior winners.

“I believe those swimmers who put in the extra hours in the weight room before the season began are showing noticeable gains in power off the blocks, stronger underwater kicks and better stroke stability,” Otsuki said.

“With so many best times already falling and conditioning still building, these kids are positioning themselves for significant growth as the season progresses.”

Carpinteria High will host Nordhoff for another league meet next Wednesday.
