Dos Pueblos girls beach volleyball cruised to a 5-0 sweep of Oxnard High in a Channel League matchup on Monday in Goleta.

The No. 1 Charger duo of Allie Ben-Yaacov and Char Welch battled to a three-set win over their opponents, 19-21, 21-17, 15-8.

At court two, Ruby Dunlop and Gia Gaas cruised to a two-set victory over their own, 21-11, 21-13.

Meanwhile, Faith Harrison and Kyra Sample picked up a two-set win and clinched it with a tight set-two win at the threes, 21-10, 22-20.

The No. 4 pairing of Mia Taylor and Maeve Jaeger bounced back from a first-set win to earn a victory of their own, 16-21, 21-10, 16-14.

At the fives, Dos Pueblos’ Athena Bardakos and Moana Martinez dominated their way to a straight-set win, 21-6, 21-7.

“Athena and Moana played consistent volleyball and were able to cruise to an easy victory,” Dos Pueblos head coach Nate Holmes said.

The Chargers (4-5, 2-1 Channel League) will be on the road against Rio Mesa on Wednesday.

Santa Barbara High 5, Buena 0

The Dons went on the road and came away with a sweep of the Bulldogs on Tuesday in Ventura.

“Buena had nice ball control and a good defensive presence overall, but we were able to use aggressive serving and strong offense to get the win,” Santa Barbara High head coach Kristin Hempy said.

Lola Heckman and Kira Elliott took care of business on court one with a 21-10, 21-12 win for the Dons. Santa Barbara High’s Paylin Marcillac and Blake Saunders did the same at the twos, 21-1, 21-11.

“Lola’s defense looked sharp and Kira had some nice, strong offensive swings,” Hempy said. “Blake served especially well today, and Paylin was hitting her shots.”

Stella Peus and Jaqueline Durling kept the Dons rolling with a victory at the threes, 21-13, 21-19, and the No. 4 duo of Grace Costner and Tali Yoshimi pulled out a three-set win, 21-19, 17-21, 15-2.

“[Peus and Durling] communicated so well and were strategic on offense,” Hempy said. “[Costner and Yoshimi] were able to control the pacing and improve ball control to dominate the third set.”

Santa Barbara High’s No. 5 duo of Gabby Cajuste and Phoebe Peterson completed the sweep with a two-set win, 21-19, 21-7.

“Gabby and Phoebe found their rhythm with ball control and did a nice job with their shots,” Hempy said.

San Marcos 4, Ventura 1

The Royals earned a Channel League victory of their own over the Cougars on Monday in Ventura.

The top San Marcos duo of Cora Loomer and Evyn Miller continued their success with a 21-19, 21-13 victory.

“Loomer had several thundering kills, as she took full advantage of Miller’s sets,” San Marcos head coach Tim Loomer said. “In the second game, Miller played some particularly solid defense behind Loomer’s block.”

At the twos, Reese Paskin and Alina Stapf earned a two-set win as well, 21-12, 21-18. Paige Hoadley and Charlotte Hastings cruised to a win in straight sets at the threes, 21-13, 21-10.

“[Paskin/Stapf] played some very consistent volleyball in all the phases of the game, passing, setting, defense, and attacking. Throughout the match, both displayed some very solid offense,” Tim Loomer said.

“Hoadley played some very smart volleyball while Hastings hit her stride offensively, mixing some solid attacks with precisely placed shots.”

Jeannie Johnson and Kelsey Rowe rounded out the San Marcos winners with a three-set victory on court four, 21-13, 18-21, 15-13.

“After taking a knee to the hip toward the end of the second game, Rowe gritted her teeth and played through the pain to win a very tough third game, gutting out the victory,” Tim Loomer said.

“Jeannie’s consistent ball control in the third match helped minimize how much Rowe had to move around the court, a key to the win. It was really gutsy of Kelsey to finish the match.”

The Royals are now 11-1 overall and 4-0 against Channel League opponents.
