Carpinteria High track & field swept a double dual meet with Malibu and Del Sol on Thursday in Carpinteria.
The Warrior girls defeated Malibu 108-23 and came out on top against Del Sol by a score of 120-3. Meanwhile, the boys took down Malibu 97-33 and earned an 82-49 win over Del Sol.
“Our goal was to beat Malibu because they are in our league. We accomplished our goal with flying colors,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “Del Sol was icing on the cake because they are not in our league.
“I was impressed with our performance today. We continue to show improvement in our early-season performances.”
Individually, Vivian Huskins won the 100 and 200-meter races with times of 12.83 and 26.64 seconds, respectively, to lead the Carpinteria High girls team.
Meanwhile, Jaqueline Guardian (800 meter, 2:43.48 and 1,600 meter, 5:47) and Marely Avalos (discus, 96-1 and shot put, 30-3.5) also picked up a pair of individual event victories.
Kaydance Gardner (400 meter, 63.06), Kian Kian (3,200 meter, 13:33.24), Izzy Scott (300 hurdles, 51.178), Halleh Gahan (100 hurdles, 19.32), Gia Sharma (long jump, 13-10.5), Ayla Soicher (triple jump, 27-9.75) and Ellie Roberts (pole vault, 5-0) rounded out the girls winners with first-place performances.
The Warrior girls 4×100 relay team of Huskins, Gardner, Isla Moore and Caroline Cooney won their race with a time of 50.92 seconds, while Gardner, Guardian, Scott and Cailyn Gillen took first in the 4×400 relay at 4:33.79.
As for the boys, Eli Perez and Max Soto were the lone double individual event winners. Perez won the shot put at 39-5.25 and placed first in the discus with a mark of 116-4, while Soto placed first in the 800-meter (2:09.90) and 1,600-meter (4:49.94).
Isaac Sanchez (110 hurdles, 19.02), Josiah Gonzalez (high jump, 5-2), Jeremy Haines (pole vault, 9-0) and Taylor Lenci (triple jump) put the finishing touches on the team win with first-place showings.
