A proud Minnesotan, William ‘Bill’ Stanley Clothier was born May 7, 1951. He migrated west to sunny California 15 years ago to be closer to his devoted family. Bill passed away on Feb. 17, 2026.
He was a loyal Vikings fan and golf lover. An active member of the Cosmopolitan Golf Club in Santa Barbara, Bill golfed with them three times a week, and was happiest on the links.
He had impressively long drives and was very proud of his several holes in one and his coveted Albatross achievement.
Eldest of three children of Stan and Lu Clothier, Bill was the apple of his father’s eye. They were inseparable sidekicks. He was a loving son and brother, and a quirky and very eccentric uncle to Remy and Eva. And of course, a worshipper of his two cats, Shadow and Dori.
An early tech adopter, Bill had the first Apple computer in 1984. A voracious reader, especially of sci fi, he always had a paperback in his pocket. A pizza lover and maker for over 60 years. He was an avid photographer, guitar player and collector.
He loved all things music and loved the rock and roll era which he exemplified by sporting a long white ponytail under his baseball cap. A product of the ’60s, he carried a liberal torch throughout his entire life.
Bill always colored outside the lines, and was known as a giver of offbeat gifts. He had a keen intellect (Mensa) and was a perceptive observer of the comical absurdities of the human condition.
Truly a warm-hearted and generous individual, he will be missed by many dear friends and his small but mighty family.
Preceded in death by his mother Lu, and his sister Ann. Survived by Stan Clothier (father), Joanie Saint Denis (sister), Gary Saint Denis (BIL) Remy Saint Denis (nephew) Eva Saint Denis (niece), and many cousins throughout.
