Rescuers responded to a call involving a man who fell and injured his head while hiking in the mountains above Santa Barbara on Sunday morning.

At approximately 9:15 a.m., Santa Barbara Search and Rescue members along with personnel from the Santa Barbara City and Santa Barbara County Fire departments were dispatched to Rattlesnake Canyon Trail. 

The hiker was located approximately 1.5 miles from the trailhead after sustaining a minor head injury in a fall, authorities said.

After being evaluated by rescuers, the hiker was escorted down the trail while his condition continued to be monitored.

Once the hiker returned to the trailhead, medics reevaluated him.

The hiker elected to be transported to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital by ambulance for further medical care.
