Dos Pueblos softball’s offense stayed hot with a 12-2 mercy-rule victory over Pacifica on Friday at Okinaka Field in Goleta.
Kacey Hurley led the 12-run, 11-hit effort by going 2-for-4 with a grand slam and a two-run homer, six RBI. Meanwhile, Anastasia Brunner, Zella Cassidy, Julianna Brunner and Brooklyn Hedricks tallied two hits apiece.
“Kacey Hurley had a great day today. Anytime a player can hit two home runs in a game is a big accomplishment,” Dos Pueblos head coach Mike Gerken said.
“To do it with the bases loaded is extra special. Couple that with her game management responsibilities and it’s easy to see why she’s such a special player.
The Chargers (10-2, 6-0 Channel League) have now scored double-digit runs in nine of their 11 games this season.
After the Tritons scored once in the top of the first, the Chargers answered with four runs in the bottom half and never gave up the lead from there.
Pacifica kept it close in the middle innings, but a seven-run bottom of the fifth triggered the mercy-rule win for Dos Pueblos. Julianna Brunner roped a two-run double to walk it off for the Chargers.
“Juliana Brunner is quietly putting together a great year. She always seems to get a clutch hit when we need it. The double to end it is a perfect example,” Gerken said.
Emily Morici handled the pitching duties for the Chargers, allowing two runs on five hits and striking out five in her five innings of work.
Dos Pueblos will head across town to take on rival San Marcos on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m.
