San Marcos track & field swept its Channel League tri-meet with Rio Mesa and Buena on Thursday in Oxnard.

The Royals’ boys team came away with a 76-46 win over Rio Mesa and a 70-57 win over Buena, while the girls team took down Rio Mesa by a score of 76-56 and dominated Buena to the tune of a 110-7 victory.

TJ Deakyne took care of business in the jumpers, winning the high jump, long jump and triple jump for San Marcos. Meanwhile, Bryan Atov won the 100-meter with a time of 11.15 seconds and Logan Patterson Deakyne captured the 800-meter at 1:58.98 to go along with his second-place finish in the 110 hurdles.

The Royals’ 4×400 team of Dalton Shupe, Alex Silva, Logan Patterson Deakyne and Wyatt Degner combined to win their race. Silva rounded out the boys with second-place showings in the 200 and 400-meter races.

On the girls side, Harlyn Griffin came in first in both the shot put (31-8) and discus (113-10). Maya Llewellyn also earned a pair of first-place finishes in the 100 hurdles and 300 hurdles.

“Harlyn is really throwing with confidence. She is improving every meet. The coaches are doing a great job with our throws team,” San Marcos head coach Marilyn Hantgin said. “Maya is just a freshman and continues to improve. She moved up to varsity this week and did an amazing job. I am so proud of Maya for handling the pressure of varsity races.”

Jaylee Farias had a strong day for the Royals as well, winning the triple jump with a mark of 31-11 and coming in second in the long jump at 15-8.

“Jaylee is a great athlete. She just started jumping and I know she will continue to improve throughout the season,” Hantgin said.

Caprinteria High vs. Nordhoff

The Warriors split their Citrus Coast League meet with Nordhoff on Thursday, with the Carpinteria girls dominating their way to a 120-10 win and the boys team narrowly falling 76-60.

Vivian Huskins broke her own school record in the 200-meter, crossing the finish line in 25.90 seconds. She was also a member of the record-breaking 4×100 relay team of Kenzi Gardner, Callie Labistour, Belen MacMurray and Huskins, which registered a time of 50.42 seconds.

Huskins rounded out her standout day with a first-place finish in the 100-meter with a time of 12.69 seconds.

Meanwhile, Merely Avalos and Kiana Kiah each registered a pair of individual event wins for the Warriors. Avalos won the shot put (29-4.75) and discus (94-1), while Kiah came out on top in the 1,600-meter (5:51.98) and the 3,200-meter (13:18.11).

Kaydance Gardner (400-meter, 1:02.41), Mila Martins (800-meter, 2:41.35), Halleh Gahan (100 hurdles, 18.29), Izzy Scott (300 hurdles, 50.73), Gia Sharma (long jump, 15-8), Ayla Soicher (triple jump, 27-11.25) and Natalie Andrade (high jump, 3-10) all won their events as well.

The Warrior girls 4×400 relay team of Gahan, Gardner, Giaryz Gomez and Isla Moore came together to win their race with a time of 4:16.74.

“It was another solid outing for the Warriors. The girls continue to respond to self imposed challenges,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “Vivian Huskins now owns three school records even though the season is only half over. It is very impressive to watch our team perform.”

As for the boys, Eli Perez took home a pair of victories in the shot put (39-3) and discus (119-10). Meanwhile, Jeshua Magana won the 100-meter at 11.70 seconds and Max Soto took first in the 1,600-meter at 4:34.60.

“The boys are progressing nicely as well,” Latham said. “We continue to set numerous PRs as we go through the season. We performed well against Nordhoff. The league leading Rangers have some quality individuals. We were close until the very end.”
