Santa Barbara High track & field’s Elina Stump turned in a stellar all-around performance to lead the Dons at the annual Simi Valley Invitational on Saturday.

Stump took second place in the 100 hurdles (14.89), long jump (18-2) and triple jump (37-1) with season-best marks. She also came in third in the 300 hurdles with a lifetime-best time of 46.6 seconds.

“Those are some big mid-season numbers,” Santa Barbara High head coach Olivia Perdices said of Stump. “Way ahead of where she’s been at this point the last two years, and there’s still a lot we’re working on.

“My jump and hurdle coaches, Matt Oatis and Jack Ransdell, do a tremendous job, and she’s so willing to do the work to take it all in.”

In the throws, Emmanuel Malcipa came in second in the seeded discus with a throw of 127-6, Malachi Johnston was third in the shot put at 52-3 and Destinee Lopez placed third in the rated discus.

“Another place where my event coaches, Sophia Roberts and Logan Bonifer, really understand the events and the athletes. That group keeps showing up and getting results,” Perdices said of the throws performance.

Meanwhile, the 4×400 relay team of Jaden Molwane, Diego Placencia, Ethan Haas and Angel Hernandez crossed the finish line third in the seeded section, and Molwane earned fifth place in the seeded triple jump.

“Those boys closed out a long, hot day, coming together for a big performance. I’m really proud of how they fought for that one,” Perdices said.

The Dons will take next week off for Spring Break before a rivalry meet with Dos Pueblos and San Marcos on Wednesday, April 8.
