The Santa Maria Recreation and Parks Department will host a grand opening celebration for the Santa Maria Bark Park, a dedicated space for all city residents and their dogs, 9 a.m. Saturday, April 18.
The park is located at approximately the intersection of West Carmen Lane and Bev Rose Place.
The Santa Maria Bark Park features a variety of amenities designed to support safe and enjoyable pet recreation, including pet hydration stations, agility course structures, and a shade structure to provide comfort for both pets and people.
The park is also divided into separate areas for large and small dogs, promoting responsible pet ownership and ensuring a safe environment for all users, the city said.
The opening event will include light treats for both humans and pets, as well as a photo opportunity where dogs can participate in the ceremonial opening of the park by chasing balls into the large dog area.
“This new Bark Park reflects the city’s commitment to enhancing quality of life and providing inclusive recreational spaces for city-residents and their pets,” said Dennis Smitherman, interim Parks Deparatment director.
“It creates a welcoming environment that encourages outdoor activity, community connection, and responsible pet ownership.” he said.
The Santa Maria Bark Park supports the city’s ongoing efforts to provide accessible recreational opportunities and enhance community spaces, city officials said.
