San Marcos swim remained undefeated in dual meet action with a Channel League sweep of Rio Mesa on Wednesday in Oxnard.
The Royals’ girls team came out on top by a score of 121-39, while the boys squad earned a 94-38 victory. San Marcos will look to complete the undefeated season when it hosts Camarillo for Senior Day on Thursday at 2:20 p.m.
Kate Crowder was the lone double individual event winner for the San Marcos girls, emerging victorious in the 100 freestyle (1:01.54) and 100 breaststroke (1:20.17).
“We had a lot of great performances, but Kate Crowder had an amazing outing today,” San Marcos head coach Chuckie Roth said. “She is a four-year member of the program and has worked her way up to the varsity ranks. To see her winning two events today really made me happy.”
Meanwhile, Kate Bigler (200 freestyle, 2:25.35), Anna Jacobsen (200 IM, 2:47.76), Hannah Facenda (100 butterfly, 1:20.65), Amelia Blouin (500 freestyle, 6:36.45) and Anna Holmes (100 backstroke, 1:13.31) won their respective events as well.
As for the boys, San Marcos got two-win performances from Cole Racich and Duncan Hunt. Racich placed first in the 100 freestyle (50.87) and 200 freestyle (1:55.08), while Hunt took home the 50 freestyle (23.59) and 100 backstroke (1:02.16).
“Cole is having a breakout year and has become a key addition to our lineup. He has improved so much and we will rely on him a lot moving into the league and CIF competitions,” Roth said. “Duncan Hunt began swimming as a sophomore and has worked his way onto CIF Relays and is winning events.
“This is very rare in our community to have someone join so late and make such a big splash. [Hunt] is having his best season yet and looking forward to watching him finish it strong.”
Thatcher Cox and William Stuart rounded out the San Marcos winners in the 100 butterfly and 100 breaststroke, respectively. Cox finished in 1:02.50 and Stuart touched first with a time of 1:07.93.
Carpinteria High vs. Channel Islands
The Warriors celebrated their Senior Day with a dual meet sweep of Channel Islands as the boys team won 135-22 and the girls came out on top 85-47.
Despite the Carpinteria High girls team being outnumbered with just six swimmers able to compete, they gritted it out and earned the win.
“This was one of those meets where effort and heart mattered just as much as times,” Carpinteria High head coach Jon Otsuki said. “We asked a lot of these girls, and they responded in a big way.”
The Warrior girls got double individual event wins from Hazel Dugre (50 freestyle, 100 butterfly), Madison Lee (100 freestyle, 200 freestyle), Lucy Moore (200 freestyle and 500 freestyle) and Klari Blackman (100 breaststroke, 200 IM). The Carpinteria High girls also swept all three relay races.
On the boys side, Stefano Piccoletti (100 breaststroke, 200 freestyle) and Wyatt Pitterle (200 IM, 500 freestyle) each earned a pair of wins.
Jake Ehlers (50 freestyle), Sky Korling (100 butterfly), Luke Donahue (100 freestyle) and Cade McCallister (100 backstroke) picked up one first-place finish apiece, and the Warrior boys also swept all three relays.
“For four years this group of boys helped shape the culture of the program—showing up for early mornings, pushing through demanding sets, and representing the Warriors with pride on race day,” Otsuki said. “Their impact goes far beyond their times and finishes, leaving a lasting impression on teammates and the program as a whole.
“We appreciate you all: Jake Ehlers, Sky Korling, Taison Lee, Massimo Bonilla-Zakosek and Micah Smith. Their leadership and impact on the program will be missed but will never be forgotten. Congratulations on your accomplishments.”
The Warriors will compete in the Citrus Coast League Championships next week at Nordhoff High.
