A shooting from a vehicle in Lompoc prompted precautionary safety measures at a high school campus for a brief time Thursday afternoon.

Lompoc Police officers began investigating a reported shooting in the area of the 600 block of West College Avenue, Sgt. Scott Morgan said.

The department’s emergency dispatchers received multiple calls from community members reporting the sound of gunshots in the area, Morgan added.

Officers responded to secure the scene before detectives began actively investigating the circumstances surrounding the incident.

There are no reported injuries as of Thursday afternoon, Morgan said.

However, due to the close proximity of the incident to Lompoc High School, the campus was placed on a brief lockdown as a precautionary measure, Morgan added.

The lockdown was lifted after a few minutes once officers determined there was no immediate threat to students or staff.

Officers later found a bullet hole on an exterior wall of a science classroom but the bullet never entered the structure, according to Lompoc Unified School District officials.

Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact the Lompoc Police Department by calling 805.736.2341.
