Santa Barbara 11-year-old Hunter Bryant set a new American record in the deadlift for his age group in an AAU Powerlifting competition last weekend in Delano, California, near Bakersfield.

Bryant lifted 248 pounds, a mark that actually exceeds the current world record but is currently awaiting certification by the AAU.

He is currently a sixth-grade student at Cold Spring Elementary and also competes in baseball and football.
