Dos Pueblos swim’s Eli Carnaghe and Carpinteria High multi-sport standout Izzy Scott claimed league championships last week en route to earning Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors.

The pairing was honored at the SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe on Monday.

Carnaghe turned in a historic performance at the Channel League Championship meet, taking first place in the 50 freestyle with a time of 20.61 seconds to break a 20-year school record and set a new Channel League record in the event.

He also claimed first in the 100 freestyle and was a member of the winning 200 freestyle relay team to help power the Dos Pueblos boys to a meet victory.

Meanwhile, Scott impressed for both the Carpinteria High swim and track & field teams in their Citrus Coast League Championship meets last week.

She took first place in the 300 hurdles in the track, and also touched first in the 50 freestyle and 100 freestyle in the pool. Scott also helped take first and set a school record in the 200 medley relay to help the swim team to a league championship.

The boys honorable mentions were Ciaran Tober-Bridges (DP Tennis), Lucas Forry/ Elio Taha (SB Tennis), Servando Campuzano/Ethan Almgren (Carp Tennis), Austin Downing (SM Golf), Damien Krautmann (Bishop Volleyball), Kellan Cotter (DP Track), Nolan Clark (SM Swim) and Jake Ehlers (Carp Swim).

The girls honorable mentions were Victoria Aldana (SM Lacrosse), Emily Morici (DP Softball), Jules Horton (SB Swim), Riley Moore (DP Swim), Emi Kanda-Gleeson (Cate Swim), Elsie Tuttle (SM Track) and Elina Stump (SB Track).

The Athlete of the Week award winners are selected by the local sports media. Coaches are encouraged to nominate deserving athletes. Nominations should be sent to sports@noozhawk.com by Saturday afternoon, if possible.
