Bishop Diego softball rolled to a 21-8 win over Carpinteria High in five innings on Monday in Carpinteria.
The Cardinals wasted no time getting started, plating five runs in the first and exploding for 10 runs in the second inning to pull away for good.
Pilar Alvarez paced the Bishop Diego offense by going 4-for-4 and driving in two runs, while Emily Lafond ended the day with three hits and four RBI.
“Having these two back to back in the lineup has led to most of our runs this season,” Bishop Diego head coach MeLinda Matsumoto said of Alvarez and Lafond. “When they are both relaxed and confident, they make pitchers work with quality at bats and make adjustments pitch to pitch.”
Penny Carroll earned the win in the circle, while Lafond tossed two innings in relief.
