Braden Stewart and Hudson Chossek each posted wins against Temple City’s No. 1 singles player and two San Marcos doubles teams swept their sets, lifting the Royals to a 12-6 win in the second round of the CIF-SS Division 5 boys tennis playoffs on Friday
The Royals will play at Golden Valley in the quarterfinals on Monday.
Stewart rallied to beat Temple City’s No. 1 (7-5) and topped the No. 3 player (6-1), to finish 2-1 on the day. Chossek also defeated line 3 (6-2) then took down an exhausted line 1 (6-2), reported coach Emily Carver.
In doubles, Levi Reece/Nico Holve and Jacob Cantrell/Eliot Gray each swept, while Will Schneider/Dylan Cotich went 2-1.
Webb 11, Cate 7
The Rams dropped a second-round match in Division 3.
“Webb were a little too strong at the top of the lineup in both singles and doubles,” said coach Lance Kronberg. Cate will be keeping their core together for next season, with seniors Graham Clinger and Kiy Barry graduating.”
