A quartet of Santa Barbara area girls flag football standouts helped power the Seahawks (LA Chargers Conquer) to the High School Girls NFL Flag National Championship over the weekend in Westfield, Indiana.
The Dos Pueblos trio of Kacey Hurley, Ruby Streatfeild and Brooklyn Hedricks was joined by San Marcos’ Victoria Aldana on a team that featured a strong group of Southern California student-athletes.
The team donned Seattle Seahawks uniforms after winning the Seattle Regional to qualify for the national championship, but the SoCal-based team represents the Conquer LA Chargers team.
The Seahawks won the High School Girls title in dramatic fashion, pulling off a 15-14 overtime win over the defending champion Texans in the title game.
The game-winning play came on a two-point conversion throw from recent Ventura High graduate Ava Ortman to Mya Smith, both of whom will be playing for Ventura College this fall.
Smith, a member of the Camarillo High Class of 2026, was named the Tournament MVP for the High School Girls division.
The duo of Hurley and Streatfeild were key pieces to the Seahawks’ offensive attack throughout the tournament, while Aldana and Hedricks played big roles on the defensive side of the ball.
Hurley graduated from Dos Pueblos in June and will head up to Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo this fall. Meanwhile, Streatfeild and Hedricks are heading into their senior seasons as Chargers, and Aldana will be a junior for the Royals this fall.
