Pleasant Valley School 1869 has been honored as the first schoolhouse in California to be nationally recognized by the Country School Association of America (CSAA).

The Pleasant Valley schoolhouse received recognition for its importance in America’s educational history, having met the criteria for inclusion in the National Schoolhouse Registry.

In 2006 the schoolhouse was relocated to Tina and Paul McEnroe’s Santa Ynez Valley Rancho La Purisima from its previous site in Santa Maria.

Pleasant Valley Schoolhouse was designated a Santa Barbara County Building of Historic Merit, as proclaimed by the County Historic Landmarks Advisory Commission and the Board of Supervisors.

As schoolmarm, Tina McEnroe teaches a unique 19th century curriculum to Santa Barbara County students, believed to be the only program of this nature in the country.
