Firefighters continued working Sunday to corral the Carrizo Fire burning off Highway 166 northeast of Santa Maria.
On Sunday night, authorities reported they reached 100% containment for the 268-acre fire.
The blaze started when a vehicle fire spread to nearby vegetation on Saturday. The blaze burned in both side of the highway for a time.
Firefighters from multiple agencies including the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, Cal Fire and Los Padres National Forest responded to the incident. Multiple aircraft also were dispatched to help halt the advancing flames.
For a few hours, Santa Barbara County authorities issued evacuation warnings for Plowshare Peak, Spanish Ranch and parts of Cottonwood Canyon. Those were lifted just before 7 p.m. Saturday.
Highway 166 was closed for a few hours Saturday, but reopened to vehicles late Saturday afternoon.
With the reopening, California Highway Patrol officers urged motorists to drive slowly through the area due to firefighting activity.
The fire burned within San Luis Obispo County borders but on land under the jurisdiction of the Bureau of Land Management so limited information was available.
