New Beginnings will host a talk and reception with New York Times bestselling author Annabelle Gurwitch, 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 24 at the New Beginnings Collaborative Center, 501. E. Montecito St. Ste. 101, Santa Barbara.

Gurwitch will discuss her new book “The End of My Life is Killing Me, The Unexpected Joys of a Cancer Slacker,” a memoir published in March is a national bestseller.

Gurwitch is also an actress, and patient advocate, known for her wit, warmth and candor, organizers said.

She is the author of six memoirs whose writing has appeared in the New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and New Yorker Magazine.
 
Gurwitch has a long association with New Beginnings, having been an activist in support of housing the under-served and providing mental health services for marginalized members of our community.

“She is a captivating and witty speaker who passionately champions our work in the community,” Schwarz said.

Gurwitch shares her coping strategies and how she cultivates joy even in her darkest hours with both hilarity and heartfelt insights.

She and her book have been featured on NPR’s “Fresh Air” with Terry Gross, AARP Magazine, The Hollywood Reporter, The New York Times, and most recently on “All Things Considered” on NPR.
