Santa Maria Police Department arrested a suspect Saturday night in an alleged arson vehicle fire.

According to Lt. Jason Zickuhr, Santa Maria Police Department officers responded to a vehicle fire on the 6000 block of North Broadway at approximately 10:13 p.m.

The police began an arson investigation, he said. Officers developed information identifying a suspect and issued a BOLO (be on the lookout) alert to local law enforcement.

At 11:23 p.m., officers located the suspect, 63-year-old Evelio Torres, and arrested and booked him into jail custody on suspicion of arson of property.

Torres remained in jail custody as of Monday on $50,000 bail. The investigation remains ongoing, police said.
