An injured person was airlifted to the hospital from the Gaviota State Beach area Saturday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The county helicopter was en route to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital at around 3:15 p.m., according to emergency radio traffic.

The railroad tracks were also closed in the area for a time, said Fire Department spokesperson Karen Cruz-Orduña.

Emergency crews responded to the beach at about 2:05 p.m. to a report of a person experiencing a medical emergency.

The patient’s medical condition, which was not publicly released, resulted in “moderate injuries,” Cruz-Orduña said.
