Santa Barbara High battled to a victory over Carpinteria High in a non-league local girls golf matchup on Tuesday at Santa Barbara Golf Club.
The Dons ended the day with a team score of 268 to beat out the Warriors’ mark of 284 in the nine-hole, par-37 match.
“This was the first time we had four golfers in the 50s this year for a team low. Their hard work and practice were rewarded today,” Santa Barbara High head coach Ryan Throop said.
Santa Barbara High’s Ceci Duarte earned her first medalist honor of the season, shooting a 45 to lead her team to the win.
She was followed by teammates Jazmin Misland (51), Livvi Zampelli (56), Hannah Mahboob (57), Ava Rudd (59) and Camryn Quinn.
As for the Warriors, the duo of Ahtiziry Rojas and Sophia Garay led the way with scores of 47 and 48, respectively.
The rest of the Carpinteria High golfers were Sarah Hayman (59), Lila Garay (64) and Sophia Aguayo-Arriaga (66).
Santa Barbara High (1-2) will take on Del Sol at Seabee Golf Course in Port Hueneme.
San Marcos @ Cabrillo
The Royals competed in an unofficial match with Cabrillo on Tuesday at the Mission Club Golf Course, as the Conquistadores did not have enough golfers to fill a team.
Chloe Bellamy and Mia Rocha turned in the top scores for San Marcos by shooting a 44 and 45, respectively.
“The Mission Club was in great shape and required some precision shots. Our girls stayed out of trouble for the most part, and if they found a tough lie, they recovered well. It was nice to see their positivity and resilience showing on the course today,” San Marcos head coach Sarah Ashton said.
“This is a fun group of girls to coach, and we look forward to our next match this Thursday up at Rancho Maria against Righetti.”
