Fire crews responded Monday afternoon for an illegal burn in the backyard of a home near Santa Barbara.

Emergency responders, including the Santa Barbara County Sheriff’s Office and the Goleta Police Department, first converged at a home on the 800 block of Cieneguitas Road off Highway 154 just before 1:30 p.m.

County Fire Capt. Mike Gray said the fire was located in a backyard and had been contained. Fire crews left the scene just after 3:30 p.m.

Sheriff’s Office spokesperson Raquel Zick told Noozhawk that the fire was an illegal burn and said crews were working to gain access to all of the property.

The fire “was intentionally started,” she said, adding that the response to the incident was a coordinated effort between the Sheriff’s Office and fire crews.

She said no one had been arrested as of Monday afternoon.
