The Goleta Sanitary District board has appointed Vytautas Adomaitis as its new general manager, a position he will start in December.

“Vyto” Adomaitis has been assistant general manager at the district since mid-2025 and previously worked for the City of Goleta for 19 years, including as director of Neighborhood Services and Public Safety.

He left that post in 2021 to become Community Services director for the City of Oxnard. He took the assistant general manager job for the Goleta Sanitary District last year.

The Goleta Sanitary District provides wastewater collection and treatment services within the Goleta Valley and Isla Vista.

The Board of Directors met Sept. 21 to discuss Adomaitis’ employment agreement, which includes a base salary of $279,912, according to agenda documents.

The district’s current general manager, Steve Wagner, plans to retire, according to the district, and Adomaitis will start the job Dec. 7.

Wagner has been at the district since 2014, and in that time, the district has seen major improvements and awards, officials said in a press release.

Wagner previously worked for the City of Goleta, as Public Works director and engineer, before going to the Goleta Sanitary District. He has also worked in public works for Carpinteria and Santa Barbara County.

The Goleta Sanitary District historically has had its general manager also take on an engineering role, but that apparently will change when Wagner leaves.

Engineering manager Reese Wilson will serve as the district’s engineer, according to a press release from the district.

“The district will be in good hands under Vyto’s leadership, and I will be excited to see the next chapter for GSD,” Wagner said in a statement.

Board president Steven Majoewsky said Wagner has done an “excellent job” preparing for the transition.

“The board has great confidence in Vyto’s skills and his readiness to learn and absorb the intricacies of running the wastewater treatment facility,” he said in a statement.
