Bishop Diego football fell on the road to Newbury Park by a score of 35-0 in the Marmonte League opener on Friday in Newbury Park.

After the two sides exchanged punts to begin the contest, Newbury Park got on the board on its second drive of the night with a rushing touchdown to take a 7-0 lead midway through the first.

The Cardinals came up empty on their next drive, and the Panthers took advantage with a scoring drive capped off by a long touchdown pass to take a 14-0 advantage into the second.

The second quarter was more of the same on both sides, as the Bishop Diego offense struggled to move the ball, and Newbury Park took advantage with two more unanswered touchdowns to lead 28-0 late at the half.

The game slowed down a bit in the third quarter, as the Panthers managed just one touchdown but still held onto a commanding 35-0 advantage with one quarter to play.

That lead held for the rest of the night, as both teams went scoreless in the fourth quarter.

Bishop Diego (2-4, 0-1 Marmonte League) will host St. Bonaventure next Saturday at La Playa Stadium.
