Santa Barbara High volleyball’s Jules Horton and San Marcos cross country’s August Singer earned the Santa Barbara Athletic Round Table Athlete of the Week honors for their impressive performances last week.

The duo was honored at Monday’s SBART Press Luncheon at Harry’s Plaza Cafe.
Singer has burst onto the scene for the Royals and quickly become the boys team’s top runner in his first full season competing for the cross country team.
He took second place individually at the Clovis Invitational over the weekend with a time of 15:22, which is the school record for San Marcos at the Clovis Invite. As a team, the Royals took fourth place in the Division 3 race.
Meanwhile, Horton has been an integral part of the Dons’ success all season as the team’s setter, and she played a vital role in the team clinching a share of the Channel League title last week.
She began the week with 34 assists and nine digs in a sweep of Buena and followed that up with 32 assists and eight digs in the team’s second straight sweep of Oxnard to improve to 7-1 in league and 23-10 overall.
The boys honorable mentions were Austin Downing (SM Football), Tommy Diaz (SM Football), Isaac Neri (Carp Football), Grant Nelson (DP Water Polo) and Koa Zertuche (DP Water Polo).
The girls honorable mentions were Victoria Aldana (SM Flag Football), Lylee Harris (SB Flag Football), Simrin Singh (SM Golf), Karina Urzua (Bishop Volleyball) and Faith Harrison (DP Volleyball).
