Cate 8-man football fell to powerhouse Sage Hill by a score of 46-6 in a Tri-Valley League matchup on Saturday at Meldman Field in Carpinteria.

Sage Hill is the No. 2-ranked team in California for 8-man football, improving to 6-0 with the win. Meanwhile, the Rams dropped their fourth straight contest.

The Lightning struck early and often in the win, pouring on 23 points in the first quarter and adding 14 in the second to pull away for a 37-6 halftime lead.

Cate’s lone first-half touchdown came when offensive lineman Marcus Wong picked up a Cat fumble and took it 60 yards for the touchdown.

Sage Hill remained in control in the second half, keeping the Rams off the scoreboard to run away with a 46-6 lead.

“While it was a tough afternoon, it was great to see some of our younger players step up when their number was called,” Cate head coach Ben Soto said.

“Freshman Jaxson Docksteader showed his toughness capped by a 32 yard kickoff return, and fellow ninth grader Alonso Jurado continues to make plays on defense. Our future is bright.”

Cate will be on the road against Chadwick next week in Palos Verdes.
