Malibu 7, Carpinteria High 5
The Warriors dropped a defensive battle with the Sharks to round out the regular season on Tuesday.
After the first quarter ended in a scoreless draw, Malibu broke through in the second and took a 4-1 lead into halftime.
Carpinteria High found more success in the third quarter, holding the Sharks scoreless and scoring three goals on the other end to cut the deficit to 4-3 heading into the fourth.
Goalie Stefano Picoletti anchored the strong defensive showing, ending the day with nine saves and three steals.
“Picoletti kept the Sharks’ best shooters at bay and allowed our offense to step on the gas. He’s been a rock for us this year and has contributed a lot to our team’s confidence,” Carpinteria High head coach Russell Russo said.
The Warriors continued to fight in the fourth quarter, but Malibu held onto its lead for the two-goal win.
“We put our cards on the table from the get-go and knew this would be a tough matchup, with very little needing to go wrong to beat them. The Warriors keep getting better and more confident in every area, and I can see they’re still ready for more,” Russo said.
