The Bishop Diego girls tennis duo of Victoria Heredia and Annabel Liu earned a third-place finish at the Frontier League Individual Championships on Tuesday at Ventura College.
After Heredia/Liu fell to the top seed in the tournament in the semifinals, the Cardinals bounced back with a back-and-forth 8-6 victory over a Foothill Tech pairing.
“I’m so proud and grateful for Victoria and Annabel. They are the only two back from last year’s championship team,” Bishop Diego head coach Peter Kirkwood said. “It was quite emotional for me as I watched the last two players from a team that gave me the biggest thrill in my coaching life play their last match as Cardinals.”
Thacher 13, Carpinteria High 5
The Warriors dropped their non-league match against Thacher on Tuesday in Ojai.
The Carpinteria High duo of Caroline Cooney and Cailyn Gillen was a bright spot for the team, winning all three of their singles matchups.
Meanwhile, Sadie West/Emily Banks went 1-2 and Aubrey Alcaraz earned a singles victory to round out the Warriors’ scoring.
“Overall, it was good for us to get back on the court,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “It seems like we have not hit for a while due to the heat or our courts being used for JV matches, so today was a good starting point to get back to normal as we shift our attention to our last Citrus Coast League match on Thursday at Nordhoff.”
The Warriors are now 10-6 overall and remain 7-0 in league play.
