Carpinteria High football fell to Del Sol by a score of 21-10 on Friday night at Carpinteria Valley Memorial Stadium in Carpinteria.

“We were really proud of how our team battled today,” Carpinteria High head coach Van Latham said. “The defense played lights out in the second half. A couple of critical mistakes hurt us in the first half, but overall it was a solid defensive effort.

“We are still looking to develop consistency on offense, however. We made some big plays but didn’t make consistent positive yardage. Their blitzing game caused problems for us.”

Del Sol opened the scoring with a 60-yard scoring drive that ended in a touchdown to go up 7-0.

Carpinteria responded with a scoring drive capped off by a 26-yard field goal by Peter Casas to make it a 7-3 deficit.

The back-and-forth continued when the Jaguars marched down the field and scored on a long touchdown pass and a two-point conversion to bring the lead to 15-3.

After a stalled Warrior drive, the Carpinteria defense made a big play as Erasmo Frausto-Elizarraraz stepped in front of a pass for an interception.

The turnover set up a 35-yard touchdown pass from Isaac Neri to Victor Miranda to trim the Del Sol lead to 15-10 in the second quarter.

However, the Jaguars had the last laugh of the first half with a long touchdown pass. The two-point conversion fell short to give Del Sol a 21-10 halftime advantage.

Both defenses stood tall in the second half, as that proved to be the final score. Carpinteria High got an interception from Jonah Hernandez, but the Warrior offense couldn’t break through in the eventual loss.

Carpinteria High is now 1-3 in Citrus Coast League play and will round out its season on the road next week against Nordhoff.
