Carpinteria High girls tennis secured the outright Citrus Coast League title with a 13-5 victory over Nordhoff on Tuesday.

“It was a great day for our girls as everyone rose to the occasion and played some of their best tennis of the year,” Carpinteria High head coach Charles Bryant said. “We were finishing sets well, fighting and getting games if we were down.

“Our energy was great throughout whether we were on the court or in the bleachers cheering.”

Aubrey Alcaraz continued her standout singles season with a 3-0 performance, while Yaretzi Moctezuma and Nathalie Hernandez each tallied one win.

The Warriors dominated doubles action, with Caroline Cooney/Yoselyn Aguirre and Emily Banks/Cailyn Gillen each going 3-0. Meanwhile, Ariana Cruz earned one victory with Sarai Mota and one with Naima Palacio.

“Overall, I was really happy and proud of their performance today,” Bryant said. “We did not want to share the Citrus Coast League title with Nordhoff, which would have happened had we lost.

“We selfishly, in a good way, wanted it just for ourselves. The girls really stepped up today and showed a lot of maturity in the matches and kept their focus throughout.”

Carpinteria High will finish off the Citrus Coast League Individual Tournament on Wednesday.
