A 24-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of sexual battery of a female student Friday afternoon near the Santa Maria High School campus.

Shortly before 1 p.m., Santa Maria Police Department officers were dispatched for a report of a sexual battery near the school, Sgt. Andy Brice said.

Officers learned that an adult male approached and inappropriately touched a high school girl.

After the assault, the man fought with several bystanders who were attempting to detain him for police, Brice said.

Officers located the man, and he was taken into custody after a brief foot pursuit.

Miguel Bolanos Rodas, 24, was booked into the Santa Barbara County Jail for multiple violations.

Anyone who may have witnessed the incident or has additional information can call the Police Department at 805.928.3781.
