Andrew Bailey Day, affectionately known as Andy, passed away on May 8, 2026 at the age of 67. Andy was born on Nov. 9, 1958 in Atlanta, Georgia, to Roger W. Day and Barbara (Marcille) Day.
He grew up in the Houston, Texas, area and graduated from Memorial High School in 1977.
Andy’s family roots ran deep in the small town of Cornish, Maine, where generations of the Day family left an enduring mark on the countryside.
Throughout the surrounding hills and valleys, the Day name is woven into the very landscape, appearing on roads, hills, creeks and streams.
The family farm and beloved Long Pond were part of a rich family heritage that connected Andy to generations before him. Few families can claim such a lasting presence in a place, where their name remains written across the land itself.
Andy took tremendous pride in his Maine ancestry and the remarkable legacy his family had established there.
Andy attended Stephen F. Austin State University before continuing his education at Arizona State University, where he graduated in 1983 with a degree in geography. He remained an enthusiastic and devoted Arizona State Sun Devils fan throughout his life.
Andy eventually made his home in Santa Barbara, a place he dearly loved. He embraced its natural beauty, outdoor lifestyle, and the friendships that made Santa Barbara such a special place to live. He also spent time coaching junior varsity athletics at San Marcos High School.
In the early 1990s, Andy earned his Series 7 securities license and began his career with Smith Barney. He went on to spend more than 25 years working in the financial services industry. His years as a financial advisor were a particularly rewarding chapter of his life.
Andy genuinely enjoyed his profession, especially the relationships he developed with his clients. His outgoing personality, warmth, and natural ability to connect with people made his work something he truly enjoyed.
An avid sportsman throughout his life, Andy’s athletic abilities were evident from an early age. Stories of his legendary Pop Warner football runs remained part of family lore long after his playing days. He later ran the Los Angeles Marathon and maintained a lifelong enthusiasm for hiking, swimming, and outdoor activities.
But perhaps Andy’s greatest gift was his ability to embrace the festive nature of life. He loved good company, lively conversation, laughter, margaritas, guacamole, and a generous helping of potato salad.
More than anything, he enjoyed sharing those simple pleasures with the people around him. Andy lived in the moment. He was spontaneous, kindhearted, and generous almost to a fault. He appreciated the company of others and had a natural ability to make friends wherever he went.
Among his many talents was a surprisingly fluent command of Spanish, which he enthusiastically used whenever the opportunity arose. He delighted in conversing with Spanish speakers, often finding friendship and connection through language.
Andy, also a friend of animals, was self-proclaimed Dog Dad of Bailey, Sam, Rafa, Jasper, Calvin and Garbiñe. He loved his dogs and his beloved cat Tom Cat.
One of Andy’s greatest sources of pride was his daughter Kayla. He admired her tremendously, and took immense pleasure in watching her grow and pursue her ambitions, particularly her achievements in professional tennis. His pride in her was unmistakable.
Andy was preceded in death by his parents Roger W. Day and Barbara (Marcille) Day; sister-in-law Marty Day; and cousin Ralph Day.
He is survived by his beloved daughter Kayla; brothers Bruce Day of North Carolina and David Day of Seattle, Washington; nieces and nephews Ryan Day, Lauren Day, Max Day, and Gianna Day; cousins Peggy, Martha, Katie and Gabriel; and dear friends and acquaintances whose lives were touched by his warmth and generosity.
Andy will be remembered for his enthusiasm for life, his generosity, his love of family and friends, and his remarkable ability to find joy in the moment.
His was a life filled with friendships, laughter, and an appreciation for the simple pleasures that make life worth celebrating.
