Dos Pueblos football kicked off the CIF-SS Division 10 playoffs with a 14-7 road win over Brentwood School on Friday in Los Angeles.
The Chargers will return home for round two against Granite Hills, the No. 2 seed that took down Grace in the first round. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. next Friday at Scott O’Leary Stadium.
The Chargers took the opening kickoff and went right to work, using a big pass play to Soren Smedley to get deep into Brentwood territory. A few plays later, Chase Johnson punched in a rushing touchdown to take an early 7-0 lead.
Brentwood responded with a solid drive of its own, marching down the field and scoring a short touchdown to even the score at 7-7.
Dos Pueblos responded with another scoring drive to begin the second quarter, with Johnson finding the end zone once again on the ground to jump back out in front with a 14-7 advantage.
Brentwood threatened to cut into the deficit before the break, but Charger defender Kai Hicks hauled in an interception to halt the drive and maintain the 14-7 lead into halftime.
Both defenses took center stage in the second half, exchanging stops back and forth until Dos Pueblos made the final stand of the night to pull out the first-round playoff victory.
