Dos Pueblos High won two games at the Villa Park Girls Water Polo Tournament on Thursday, routing Capistrano Valley 12-1 and edging Long Beach Wilson 12-10.
Emma Gilbert scored four goals against LB Wilson and Shannon Connolly had three goals and three steals. Anna Cable made 14 saves in goal. The Chargers (3-2) trailed 8-5 at halftime and 9-7 after three quarters, then took control with a 5-1 fourth quarter surge.
“This was by far our best game of the season,” said coach Bryan Snyder. “We started off slow going down 3-0 and eventually 5-2 in the first quarter because of some mistakes defensively. Once we made some adjustments, we were able to contain their offense for the most part. In the second half, we played phenomenal both offensively and defensively and we were able to come back and tie it late in the fourth and eventually get the win. I’m very proud of this performance and will look to build on this for our next game.
In Thursday’s first game, the Chargers dominated Capistrano Valley behind four goals from Connolly and six steals by Ava Bennett.
DP will battle Santa Margarita on Friday at 6 p.m.
