One person was killed and two others were injured early Monday in a collision involving a semi-truck and a sedan east of Santa Maria.

At 6:35 a.m., personnel from the Santa Barbara County Fire Department, the California Highway Patrol and American Medical Response were dispatched to an incident near the intersection of East Betteravia and Philbric roads, Fire Department spokesman Mike Eliason said.

One occupant of the sedan was fatally injured, Eliason said, while a second suffered non-life-threatening injuries.

The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Utility wires also were knocked down in the area, leading to road closures for a time Monday morning.

Betteravia Road was shut down between Philbric and Telephone roads, while Philbric was closed at Stowell Road, according to the CHP.

Pacific Gas and Electric Company reported that a power outage was affecting more than a dozen customers two hours after the crash.

The crash was under investigation by the CHP.
